Anionic Polyacrylamide for Water Clarification

Evaluate anionic PAM for raw and process-water clarification using particle chemistry, coagulant sequence, floc strength and clarified-water evidence.

01

Start with the suspended phase

Anionic polyacrylamide is commonly screened where mineral fines or coagulant-conditioned particles provide adsorption sites for long-chain bridging. Source-water turbidity alone does not identify the correct charge or molecular profile.

Record particle source, pH, conductivity, alkalinity, temperature, natural organic matter indicators and the primary coagulant before selecting trial grades.

02

Test after the real coagulation step

Run adjacent anionic profiles after the plant coagulant at representative rapid-mix and flocculation energy. Measure settled-water turbidity, floc size, breakage, residual carryover and filter-loading consequences.

Choose the lowest stable active-dose window that meets clarification and downstream filtration requirements rather than the beaker with the largest visible floc.

03

Convert the trial into a supply description

Preserve product code, charge family, active content, preparation concentration, aging time, injection point and approved dose range. Include source-water conditions that were represented in the trial.

For drinking-water use, require the exact product's applicable certification, maximum use level and residual-monomer documentation; a generic family statement is not sufficient.
